Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine provides a home away from home for families whose children are receiving medical care, operating Houses in Portland and Bangor plus a Family Room inside the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. The Portland House on Brackett Street welcomes up to 21 families a night, 365 days a year, with private bedrooms, home-cooked meals, and a community of families facing the same thing — and no family is turned away for inability to pay.
