When a child is seriously ill, the hospital is only half the story. The other half is a parent who needs to be there — and who may live three hours north, with no way to afford a hotel room for a stay of unknown length.

That is the gap Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine has filled since 1983, when the Bangor House opened its doors. The Portland House followed in 1995 on Brackett Street, and today it houses up to 21 families a night, every night of the year. Families get a private bedroom, home-cooked meals, laundry, and the company of other parents going through the same thing. A nightly donation is suggested, but no family is ever turned away for being unable to pay.

In February 2021, employees at Quirk Chevrolet Portland presented Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine with an employee-funded donation. It was part of a broader $30,000 commitment made by Quirk employees to organizations across the communities the company serves statewide.

Comfort, care, and compassion are the words the House uses for what it offers families on a child's medical journey. Quirk Chevrolet Portland is proud to help keep those doors open.
