Portland Employees Support Shelter Pets at the Animal Refuge League
The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland works from a simple premise: the bond between people and their animals is worth protecting, and an animal waiting for a home deserves real care while it waits. From its Westbrook shelter, ARLGP takes in stray, surrendered, abandoned and confiscated animals from across southern Maine and works to place as many as possible into homes that will keep them.
Day to day, that work is unglamorous. Food in the bowls. Clean bedding. Toys and enrichment so a dog or cat waiting weeks for the right family doesn't spend those weeks bored and anxious. Medical care for the ones who arrive needing it.
In February 2021, employees at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland chose the Animal Refuge League for one of their employee-funded donations, earmarked for exactly those essentials — food, bedding, toys and the supplies that keep a shelter running.
It is an organization saving lives and changing lives every single day. Helping stock the shelves was the least we could do.
